Tip: Play your songs to people

Overcome the fear of people not liking your songs; just get over yourself and play them. You will get a sense of whether they are good, or not. I can be working on a song for weeks but the first time I play it in front of people I hear it differently; I become aware of its strengths and weaknesses. It is only when you play a song in front of people that you know whether it is good or not.

Ultimately all you can do is write songs the best you can, then put them out and see if people like them.” Michael Kiwanuka

When I started out, I was absolutely awful, I had no voice, I didn’t have a lot of stage presence and most of the interpretive intensity that I brought to the experience was actually terror.” – Jimmy Webb
